원래 이전 가사는 더 비관적이었다고 합니다. 에우리디케를 잃은 것에 대한 애도와

자신의 무능력함에 대한 내용이었는데, 브로드웨이 버전에서는 조금 더 희망적인 느낌으로 바뀌었습니다.

개인의 정체성도 없습니다. 오르페우스가 일꾼 한 명 한 명에게 말하는 이 부분은

잃어버린 각자의 인간성과 개성의 일부를 돌려준다는 해석으로 봐도 될 것입니다.

* 에우리디케와 달리 오르페우스의 말이 일꾼들에게 들리는 이유는

그가 유일하게 죽지 않은 사람이기 때문입니다.

Flowers에서 에우리디케가

'Is anybody listening? I open my mouth and nothing comes out'

라고 이야기했던 것을 생각해보면 지금 이 장면은 그 때와 상당히 대조적입니다.
